The Most Expensive Toy I Didn't Know I Needed

I own a 3D printer. I originally didn't want it, but somehow I now own two.

The one that gets the most use is the UV resin printer. I own an Elegoo Mars 2 Pro. And let me tell you, as much as I didn't want it, I have been enjoying the heck out of it. I agreed to get it so I could print things for my nerdy jewelry business as well as a few odd minis here and there.

There in the beginning, my husband and I would run it twenty-four/ seven. We both had a bunch of projects we wanted to get done, so we were constantly emptying the tank and refilling it with a different color.

Most of my things are little and quick, just an hour or two because I don't need super huge items. The bulk of the printing has been my husband.

He's a DM and runs multiple games a week. Which means a constantly changing group of baddies for his players to fight. In the past, he'd either have to find the mini to portray the baddie or use something else to take its place (there is still a stale Starburst floating around the gaming area).

Now, he can download a file and print as many as he needs in any size he needs. This means the character that constantly gets enlarged can have a normal sized mini and an enlarged mini. Super convenient for game night.

I wouldn't advocate everyone running out and buying a printer. They are still spendy and take a bit of finagling to learn. But if you're like us and will utilize it regularly, it could save you some money in the long run, as well as allowing you to print things in colors other than gray. I'm a fan of the clear colored resin.

What is your favorite gaming indulgence that isn't super necessary?
